Pane Pane Sandwiches sits quietly amid the bustle of downtown Seattle at 304 Union St, offering a streamlined, no-frills spot to grab an inventive sandwich that balances speed with fresh flavors. This small deli and takeout-focused shop draws a crowd looking for a quick yet satisfying lunch break or a casual, flavor-packed bite on the go.

The atmosphere leans toward practical and efficient, fitting for downtown workers and visitors who want a solid meal without the sit-down wait. Inside, the vibe is friendly and unpretentious, with staff who clearly know their sandwiches and take a moment to guide newcomers on best sauce pairings or bread choices — a detail appreciated by those who come regularly. While seating is limited, many choose to carry out, settling nearby at a park bench or back at the office.

Pane Pane’s menu highlights lean on creative twists such as the BBQ Beef Brisket Coleslaw Sandwich and the Teriyaki Meatball Banh Mi, a unique fusion that sets it apart from typical deli fare. This banh mi isn’t traditional, but its bold, slightly sweet and savory tones get a lot of repeat fans. The bread serves as a crucial component, most often a soft yet slightly crispy base that holds together well—though it can occasionally verge on delicate, making for a sandwich experience that demands some attention.

Vegetarian options like the gluten-free flatbread topped with pesto and fresh mozzarella show the shop’s willingness to cater to varied tastes without complicating the menu. Sides such as Tim’s Cascade potato chips in classic or bold flavors provide a familiar crunch, while sweet treats like salted caramel chocolate chip cookies make for an easy dessert decision.

Whether you favor a hearty meat selection, something lighter with pickled onions and baby greens, or a sandwich with a little extra kick from wasabi dijon or balsamic glaze, Pane Pane manages to keep things fresh and thoughtfully prepared at a price point fair for the downtown core. Ideal for weekday lunchtime visits, the flow is steady but not rushed, and you’ll often find locals swinging by for a dependable fast-casual option that feels more handcrafted than a typical chain.

In short, Pane Pane fits the needs of downtown Seattle’s office crowd and sandwich lovers looking for variety that punches above the usual takeout. It’s a spot where regulars appreciate the flavor combos and fresh bread, while new visitors can expect straightforward service with little fuss—and enough menu creativity to inspire repeat trips.

This place absolutely slaps. One of the best sandwich shops in the downtown core. Meatball banh mi is unique and tasty and the wasabi coleslaw is awesome. Have tried most of the menu and have yet to find a sandwich that isn’t great. Excellent bread too. Love this place. Good portion for the price in downtown.

Absolutely excellent breakfast sandwich! Not just egg/cheese, they add some greens, tomato, and pickled veg. You can also opt to add a spread for extra flavor. I went with the wasabi dijon, which was a bit sweet — really nice to offset the salty bacon. Good bread too, some crunch but not so hard that it will destroy the roof of your mouth. Finally, super friendly people working here. Definitely recommended!

I got the Meatball Banh Mi, which was a somewhat unique take on the traditional sandwich. The flavor wasn’t bad, but the bread I got was falling apart so it was difficult to eat. Service was friendly, and I got my sandwich pretty quick.

a little shop with a cool vibe and just some outstandingly fresh and flavourful sandwiches. I got the #4 a take on an italian sammage. it was super fresh the bread was soft yet crispy, you won’t regret grabbing one of these to go or stay

I’ve only had the Meatball Banh Mi, but it’s so good I never feel the need to branch out. The people who work here are super nice. Their sister restaurant, Kudedon, is just up the street. I’ll admit, nine times out of ten I go there, but Pane Pane is a worthy choice for a quick lunch downtown. I just hope the owners open more of these creative gems.

They were out of the tomato soup, which was disappointing, but the sandwich I got was amazing. I got the number 8, which has basil pesto, prosciutto and artichoke hearts. I also got some balsamic glaze and aioli on top, which really enhanced the flavors. This was a seriously impressive sandwich, so go try this place!
